Finally got around to doing this. I spent so many hours rebuilding my 2007 records ever since they supposedly disappeared with the death of my laptop's hard drive ("supposedly" since I never got it checked). I believe this new records are more accurate than when I tallied them last year. As the numbers will show, there is a rather large difference between my expenditure in 2007 and in 2008. I spent significantly less in 2008, most likely because of various expenses I didn't have in 2007 and the fact that I started collecting the Japanese versions of the
Shugo Chara! and
Rozen Maiden manga.
I'd have other statistics, such as numbers concerning my entire collection, but I still haven't logged in everything, especially those before 2007 and not purchased online.
The following are counted by items purchased, not by actual discs (in regards to DVDs).
2007
Anime: 136 ($3,188.74)
Manga: 92 ($944.48)
2008
Anime: 99 ($1,728.13)
Manga: 77 ($868.13)

lol Any guesses at what happened here?
Heh, the only reason manga in 2008 comes so close to the total spent in 2007 is because of the stuff I imported, totaling $475.69. Actually, most of my imports were manga.
Imports (Total: 18)
Negima Vol 23 (with Ala Alba DVD 1)
Rozen Maiden Shinsouban 1-7 (Volume 7 included series box)
Rozen Maiden 1 Special Edition (new stuff aka "Tale")
Shugo Chara! Special Edition 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8
Shugo Chara 2009 Kodansha Calendar
Pokemon 2009 Calendar
Pokemon 2009 Daily Calendar (lol wish I didn't)
I would have gotten Negima 24 when it was released in November, but it seems I only got split shipment for Volume 23, so Volumes 24 and 25 will come together once the latter is released in February. Oh well.
2009 will be an interesting year with so many new licenses by FUNimation. Fortunately, their New Show A Go Go thing turned out to have lots of titles I already own or don't intend to own. Of them, I think I'll look forward to
Samurai Champloo,
Soul Eater, and
Evangelion 1.0. I may get
Slayers Revolution if I ever get to start the series. However, lots of the Sojitz titles they acquired from ADV and several unfinished titles they got from Geneon are ones I've been looking to collect or finish collecting. Then there's Bandai Entertainment's lovely-looking LEs for
Code Geass,
Gurren-Lagann, and
Lucky Star that I still need to get. Oh yeah, there's several Media Blasters stuff too...
Ha, 2009 doesn't look good at all for my wallet. And here I was thinking of focusing on titles I haven't finished yet. I guess I'll see what happens. I did have a wishlist, but it got hard to maintain. I'll probably need to make a newer one that's more specific to what I need to finish (including manga) and the new releases that I must absolutely have. Ugh, I hope my collection doesn't suddenly turn into too much of a chore. So glad I don't collect figures. Despite importing a few select manga, I gladly don't intend on importing anime.
Update
Oh yeah, some other things I wanted to mention. In 2008, I started approximately 103 titles and finished approximately 71. This includes movies, OVAs, sequels, and re-watches (basically anything list-able on MyAnimeList.net). And some of those finished titles carried over from 2007. lol MyAnimeList.net makes these numbers seem so small...
This year already, I've already started
Aria The Animation (first watched DVD of the year),
School Rumble Ni Gakki, and
Zoku Natsume Yuujinchou. All great shows.
