[Blog][Konoha] Top 15 anime I saw in 2008, part 2
I spent the better part of today trying to track down a record that I had chicken pox 20 years ago, only to be informed by my mother that she recognized what it was when I got it, and she never took me in and we just dealt with it. So I get to go get the blood test done for it tomorrow. To unwind, here are the next 5 of last year's top 15.

10: Red Garden

I could blame this on how much CSI I've watched in the last two years, but every so often I do come across a horror series I really like. This got an automatic win for not being about vampires (burned out on them for quite a while). Perhaps it was because what the girls were fighting looked like they had jumped off Le Chevalier D'eon. Maybe it was how the episodes contained multiple viewpoints by switching between 5 or 6 characters, instead of the camera being trained on one group or person for an entire episode. Or how when the girls screamed and were terrified of fighting, it didn't feel like you wanted to yell at them to get over themselves, because the feel of the show and the...

[Blog][Marisa Kirisame] Avatars (Fifteenth Entry)
It's been awhile since I've done a normal avatar entry, but thanks to inspiration from a certain series, I've decided to make another entry with avatars from that series.

For the record the series would be Binbou Shimai Monogatari, but since I've only managed 12 avatars from it... I've decided to supplement the entry by making some random Volcaloid Avatars. Just because I felt like it. There are also a few misc avatars included as well.

Underrated Anime Characters
Many of our favorite anime characters are main characters, or a supporting characters who eventually turn into main characters. A character I had in mind is a really supporting character, but he deserves more than he’s known for. Bright Noa from Mobile Suit Gundam/Zeta/Double Zeta/Char’s Counterattack/Hathaway’s Flash is Captain of White Base (0079) and the [...]

[Blog][Asrialys] Happily Poorer: 2008 in Review
Finally got around to doing this. I spent so many hours rebuilding my 2007 records ever since they supposedly disappeared with the death of my laptop's hard drive ("supposedly" since I never got it checked). I believe this new records are more accurate than when I tallied them last year. As the numbers will show, there is a rather large difference between my expenditure in 2007 and in 2008. I spent significantly less in 2008, most likely because of various expenses I didn't have in 2007 and the fact that I started collecting the Japanese versions of the Shugo Chara! and Rozen Maiden manga.

I'd have other statistics, such as numbers concerning my entire collection, but I still haven't logged in everything, especially those before 2007 and not purchased online.

The following are counted by items purchased, not by actual discs (in regards to DVDs).

2007
Anime: 136 ($3,188.74)
Manga: 92 ($944.48)

2008
Anime: 99 ($1,728.13)
Manga: 77 ($868.13)

[Blog][YunaRen Leader] Keeping track in 2009
Okay if there one thing I've noticed this year is that I'm not very good at keeping track of things I buy or keeping them in order but a lot of the second one is a space issue. Why all of a sudden do I want to keep track of my games, CDs, Anime, Manga and DVD purchases well there are a lot of good reasons. Manga for one which I bought almost non of in 2008 was because I just couldn't remember what the last volume I left off on was. I mean I'd really hate to of buy two copies of Chibi Vampire six only to noticed six months later do to the fact that I never got around to reading the last volume I bought in the first place. DVD wise I'm also going to have to be more careful on that front to as I more often than not leave them in there shipping boxes until I actaully want to play them and my DVD profile doesn't always help because I just add new items when I get a e-mail saying there sent. Which was a problem as I just noticed after cleaning up the last two months worth of stuff that When They Cry Vol. 6 has yet to reach my house even though it was shipped out Dec 17. I likely...

[Blog][Konoha] Top 15 anime I saw in 2008, part 1
Years ago - 2003 and 2004, I think - I started doing top 10 lists for the year. It was a lot of fun, but then I got lazy and the amount of anime I was watching dipped, so the idea was on hiatus for a couple of years. Normally I would revitalize it with a top 10 again, but... I saw so much awesome stuff this year! Even with 15 there were a lot of titles that had to be left out.

*Note - in this case, saw means "all the way to the end." As many of you know, the endings to shows can really drop the ball at times, and sometimes only the first arc is truly awesome. With that in mind, some of these I started years ago and only now finally finished - or even started!

So! Part 1, #15 - #11

15: Nanaka 6/17

I rented this show after hearing a few positive comments about it on one of the forums I read, and also because it was nice and short (3 discs, 13 episodes) and someone sent me the opening theme a few years ago, and it was absurdly catchy. The content was a lot more interesting than one might expect. The 6 year old Nanaka was...

[Review] Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam II: Lovers (Movie)
Warning: This post contains spoilers! Read at your own risk! I recently finished watching the second Zeta Gundam movie, “Lovers”. This one is better than the first one, because…Well, it was the first movie based on the first 15-ish episodes of the original series. “Lovers” also has a theme: that is the main characters falling [...]
